Rambling: 12/30/01

Yesterday:

Yesterday was so cold, cold ceased to be a good description. The new word for yesterday is freezer. In other words, Yesterday was absolutely "freezer." (This word will not be found in the any Dictionary at this time, however, through continued usage it might make its debut.)

I got up early around 7am and went to the mechanics around 8am. My mechanic a brave soul was attempting to fix the horn, alarm and a few other things on my car with his bare hands. After about 30 minutes, he was telling me "Mucho frio" (probably the wrong spelling... )... Come back tomorrow..." to fix the other things. lol. I wondered how he had even managed to last that long on my car. He fixes cars on the side of the street, as a lot of bronx mom/pop mechanics do because of a lack of space. He was thus at the mercy of the "freezer" air. At least he fixed my horn.

I spent the rest of the day buying a few things for Sint Maarten. I am happy about my new voice recorder. I got a Pulse SmartPen as adviced by someone on Valuemd. I like the Pulse pen because it syncs voice recordings with what you write. For example, you can point to any word or phrase in your notes and have it playback what was said around the time you wrote that word or phrase. Freaking awesome.

Here's it for you viewing pleasure.

Here's a link of a review on it.

Tying up loose ends

Today I fix up my car, buy a shoe, lotion and bug spray.

I am leaving my car with my parents who will in turn be selling it. Before that there are a few things that need to get fixed. Hopefully, its not freezing out there like it was yesterday because my mechanic does all his work outside; I'll be right out there with him speaking broken english in an attempt to communicate better with him, a mainly spanish speaker.

That reminds me, I also need to close up my tutoring session and return everything back to Testquest.

Work ethic

Discussions with upperclassmen on the ValueMd.com forum make it clear that you have to work every hard everyday to perform very well in medical school. In my years of working hard, albeit working hard last minute, I have learned that there is working hard and there is working hard efficiently.

If you work hard without a plan you will make progress but not the kind of progress you desire. The people that work hard but not efficiently are always complaining about how nothing works, how they have put in days with little result.

Working hard efficiently with a goal in mind, with structure, it becomes easier to remember things faster and usually results in higher performances.

I will work very hard. Yes. But I will also work efficiently. There will be no last minute studying. My goal and resolution for 2010 is to study hard everyday, and try to study as much as possible.

Good luck to all... Merry Christmas again guys!

Happy Holidays Everyone

Merry Merry christmas everyone. These is one of the last few days of celebrations with no worries about exams before I make of for Sint Maarten. I'm spending it at home with the family. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I hope you all enjoy it like I will.

A bit about Sint Maarten

My time to leave for Sint Maarten is a two weeks away... I'm rushing to get ready for my trip and stay there.

I notice I haven't described Sint Maarten yet.

Sint Maarten is an island located in the caribbean. Its one of the five islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles. The interesting thing about this island is that it is divided into two parts: a french part called Saint Martin, and a dutch part called Sint Maarten. Sint Maarten is located on the southern half of the island and Saint Martin is to the north.

For now Sint Maarten is a Netherland territory, sort of similar to a municipality but on oct. 10, 2010 it will gain full country status.

Books for first semester

Judging from what I've read on facebook, student doctor, valuemd and
these are roughly the books that i need to get:

Netter's Clinical Anatomy
Netters Atlas of Human Anatomy
BRS Gross Anatomy
Langman's Medical Embryology
Histology, a Text and Atlas
lippincotts biochemistry.

Apparently, mainly anatomy has a need for text books since Histology and MCB rely mainly on notes taken in class.

Should I purchase the above books in the states new or on the island used, where i hear prices are as low as 5$?

On a side note, I'm thinking about all these books and getting apprehensive/nervous. Am I ready to study this much and this hard? This nervousness is good and will prevent me from becoming complacent, hopefully keeping me up to date in all my classes.

St. Maarten here i come

My financial aid has finally been approved. St. Maarten, AUC here i come. May God guide my way through Medical School.

Now i have to purchase the reminder of my things and put down my housing deposit. aaaa. The hecticness getting ready with only two weeks to go.

Still waiting...

Still waiting on my financial aid for AUC to come through. After that I'll know for sure that the road to becoming a doctor has a stamp of approval and is ready to built.

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...

New Chapter in my life

I'm turning a new page in my life, getting ready for medical school in American University of the Carribean, located in St. Marteens.

First, there are a few things that need to get done, considering school is less than a month away:
1) doctors appointment
2) dentist appointment, where I'll possibly need a root canal. (ooo happy joy)
3) sell all my crap that i've accumulated to generate money to pay of some bills of my.
4) buy things i need for school.

Awesomeness.
